Expanded free school meal provision of up to £3 a day now includes eligible learners in Years 7 and 8.
From November 2 eligible young people will have the funding uploaded to their cashless catering card each morning during term time.
Any parent or carer receiving Universal Credit can apply for the provision, with no income limit on the expanded entitlement.
Applications are now open and will continue to be accepted after the scheme starts next month. If you have already applied, you do not need to reapply.
Until then cashless catering accounts will need to be kept topped up.
Those receiving £3 a day after 2 November will not be able to roll any allowance over, and costs above £3 will have to be met by parents or carers.
Visit our Schools and Learning webpage (opens in new window) for more information and to make an application as soon as possible.
Cabinet Member for Education Cllr Paul Miller said: “From 2 November, eligible secondary school learners whose families receive Universal Credit will be able to benefit from this important extension of free school meals.
“I would encourage all parents and carers who may be eligible to check their entitlement and register as soon as possible so that their child can take advantage of this fantastic opportunity after the upcoming half term. Every eligible learner deserves the support available to them, and this initiative will help families while ensuring young people are well-fed, ready to learn and able to thrive.
“This initiative is about much more than providing a meal. Access to nutritious, healthy food helps young people to concentrate, engage in learning, and achieve their full potential in the classroom. By ensuring that more learners have access to a balanced meal during the school day, we are helping to remove barriers to learning and supporting their health, well-being and educational outcomes.
“This is a positive step forward that demonstrates our commitment to supporting children, young people and families across Pembrokeshire, helping learners to have the best possible chance to succeed.”
An income threshold remains in place for eligibility for the School Essentials Grant (opens in new window).
