Enforcement officers targeting environmental crime

A team of environmental crime enforcement officers has now been carrying out patrols across Pembrokeshire for more than a month.
Pembrokeshire County Council selected WISE (Waste Investigations Support & Enforcement) to tackle a range of environmental crimes that have a negative impact on the communities in which people live, work and visit.
As of September 25th, more than 600 Fixed Penalty Notices had been issued.
The FPNs have been issued for littering, dog fouling and breach of byelaws relating to dogs on beaches.
The aim is to drive behaviour change in the small percentage of people who cause a big impact on the local environment.
Cllr Rhys Sinnett, Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services, said: “In an ideal world there would be no need for this type of enforcement.
“However, the number of Fixed Penalty Notices issued already shows that there are still people who will drop litter or fail to pick up after their dog and commit other environmental crimes that continue to blight the environment for everybody else.
“By issuing these Fixed Penalty Notices we are sending the message that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.
“Please use the bins provided, please take responsibility for your own actions and do your part to help keep Pembrokeshire a beautiful place for everyone.”
Cllr Sinnett thanked members of the public who have emailed enviro-crime@pembrokeshire.gov.uk to highlight areas of particular concern.
Cllr Sinnett added: “The public will always be our eyes and ears on the ground. Please let us know where issues are happening so we can inform enforcement officers and can target patrols accordingly.”
