ESTYN inspectors praise the Federation of Ysgol Brynconin and Ysgol Maenclochog as ‘happy, inclusive, safe and supportive’ communities

Estyn, Wales’ education and training inspectorate, visited the Federation of Ysgol Brynconin and Ysgol Maenclochog in May and has now published its findings following a full inspection of the Federation.

The report noted that:

  • Both schools have a strong culture of safeguarding pupils.
  • The Federation of Ysgol Brynconin and Ysgol Maenclochog is a safe, inclusive and supportive community.
  • Staff in both schools are committed to ensuring a high standard of care and wellbeing for pupils, creating a nurturing and supportive learning environment.
  • Both schools are positive communities built on respect and trust.
  • During their time at the schools, many pupils, including those with additional learning needs, make good progress in their skills and learning.
  • Learning support assistants are valued members of the school team and work diligently and skilfully in supporting pupils.
  • A particular strength of both schools is the purposeful opportunities given to pupils to influence decisions relating to school life. Pupils’ contributions to the life and work of the schools are effective.
  • The relationship between the schools and the community is exceptionally strong, and parents are proud that their children attend the schools and appreciate the caring nature of the schools and the wide range of opportunities available.
  • The headteacher provides caring and purposeful leadership and promotes a clear vision for both schools.
