Homes and businesses in Carew and Manorbier could soon enjoy ultra-reliable full fibre broadband, thanks to the UK Government’s Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme (GBVS) and Openreach’s Fibre Community Partnership project.
Full fibre offers faster speeds for streaming, working and studying with fewer faults and dropouts. It’s a future-proof connection built to handle growing data needs for decades.
Openreach plans to upgrade around 1,969 properties - 823 in Carew and 1,146 in Manorbier. By pledging your government voucher, you can help make sure your property is included.
Eligible homes and businesses can apply for a free voucher worth up to £4,500 to help fund the upgrade.
To take part:
- Check your eligibility on the Connect My Community website.
- Submit your pledge (no cost).
- Once the target is reached, confirm your voucher when prompted by the Government.
When the new network goes live, you will need to order a full fibre broadband service of your choice for at least 12 months. There has been a great response to the scheme so far, however the target number of pledges is yet to be reached. So, this is a great time to let your friends and family know about it to avoid them missing out. Final plans and timelines depend on the number of pledges and technical surveys.
Cllr Paul Miller, Deputy Leader of Pembrokeshire County Council, said: “Having better broadband is vital for rural communities to thrive as we move towards a digital society. The UK Government’s Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme in partnership with Openreach offers a subsidised solution to meet today’s online demands so that people aren’t left behind, particularly those areas of Pembrokeshire that have traditionally suffered from poor connectivity.”
Martin Williams, Director of Partnerships for Openreach in Wales, said: This is a really exciting opportunity for Carew and Manorbier to bring all the benefits of full fibre broadband to their communities. Our engineers have already started work to upgrade the network across Carew and Manorbier thanks to more than 429 premises who have already pledged their voucher, however we still need a further 42 homes to pledge their vouchers that will allow our engineers to complete the full fibre build.
Fibre Community Partnership projects are taking place across the Swansea Bay City Region.
