Join the Marvellous Makers for free Summer Reading Challenge

Pembrokeshire’s young book lovers are encouraged to dive into the 2024 Summer Reading Challenge and unleash their imaginations with the Marvellous Makers.
The Summer Reading Challenge, presented by The Reading Agency and delivered in partnership with Pembrokeshire Libraries, encourages children aged 4-11 to read for fun over the summer holidays.
The Marvellous Makers Characters, designed by celebrated illustrator Natelle Quek, will all be making something amazing and aims to fire up children’s imaginations and unleash storytelling and creativity through the power of reading.
The Summer Reading Challenge is fun and free to join and launches from Saturday July 6th.
Sign your child up at your local library, set a reading goal for the summer and borrow and read books, eBooks and audiobooks.
Receive a challenge poster and collect special stickers and rewards for reading.
If you are not a member of the library, you will need to bring ID that includes your address.
For inspiration about what to read visit the online Pembrokeshire Libraries catalogue, select ‘Find Library Books’ and search for the ‘Marvellous Makers book collection.
The booklist features English and Welsh language titles and includes picture books, early readers and non-fiction books.
You can also join the challenge online at www.summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/ where you can set a reading goal and get book recommendations and tips and unlock digital badges and online rewards, including a printable certificate.
The Summer Reading Challenge is proven to significantly improve children’s reading confidence, making sure they are ready for their return to school in the autumn.
It also gives families the chance to access books and fun family activities throughout the summer – all for free.
