Key dates for voters in upcoming General Election

Dyddiadau allweddol i bleidleiswyr yn yr Etholiad Cyffredinol sydd i ddod

A UK General Election has been called and will be held on Thursday, 4th July.

There are a number of key dates for voters to make sure that your vote counts.

Most important is ensuring that you are registered to vote. This must be done before midnight on Tuesday, 18th June.

Check your registration online and if you still need to register it takes just five minutes on the Government website (opens in new window).

Photographic ID is required to vote in person but if you do not have one of the accepted ID forms you have until Wednesday, 26th June to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate (opens in new window).

The most commonly used and accepted forms of ID include a UK passport, driving licence, older person’s bus pass, disabled person’s bus pass or Blue Badge. Voters will be able to use expired ID if they are still recognisable from the photo.

Further information on accepted ID can be found on The Electoral Commission website (opens in new window).

If you would rather send a postal vote the deadline for applying is 5pm Wednesday, 19th June and if a proxy vote is required you must apply by 5pm Wednesday, 26th June.

It is anticipated that postal vote packs will be dispatched from 19th June but if you have applied close to the deadline your postal vote will not be dispatched until after 25th June.

Apply as soon as you can for any of the necessary voting tools rather than waiting until close to the deadline.

William Bramble, the Acting Returning Officer for Mid and South Pembrokeshire, said: “The teams across Pembrokeshire County Council will now be putting all its planning into action, working to support voters and delivering well-run polls. I’m very grateful to all involved for their crucial work supporting our democracy.

“I’d encourage anyone wishing to apply for postal, proxy or Voter Authority Certificates to do so as soon as possible so everything is in place for 4th July.”
