A consultation has been launched to gain people’s views on the proposed West Wales Learning Disability Strategy 2026 – 2031.
Over the last two years Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion County Council and Hywel Dda University Health Board have been engaging with neurodivergent people and people with learning disability as part of discussion around a new Learning Disability Strategy.
There are currently three very similar Learning Disability (LD) strategies in Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion. This current strategy will be a single regional strategy covering all areas but with a local action plan for each Local Authority area.
The strategy has been reviewed by the Regional Improving Lives Partnership (RILP) which is a three-county group including people from:
- Carmarthenshire County Council,
- Ceredigion County Council,
- Pembrokeshire County Council,
- Hywel Dda University Health Board,
- Dream Team,
- Carmarthenshire People First,
- Pembrokeshire People First,
- West Wales Regional Partnership,
- Various projects funded by the Regional Integration Fund.
The strategy is informed by the Population Needs Assessment issued by the West Wales Partnership Board.
It covers 10 key areas that people with Learning Disability and Neurodivergent people have identified as priorities, including information, advice and assistance, social services, health services, education, children and young people, socialising and friendships, day opportunities, volunteering and work, housing, transport, advocacy and carers support.
Pembrokeshire County Council would like to hear your views about the recommendations that have emerged from the engagement.
For more information visit the Regional Partnership Board website West Wales Learning Disability Partnership page.
You can complete the online survey (opens in a new tab) by 5th July 2026.
