Are you active in your community? Want to make a difference to where you live? Come and join us at a special drop-in event to find out more about becoming a County Councillor.

Local Elections will be held across Wales in May 2027 and this event on November 10th is the first planned for those potentially interested in standing to find out more.

It will run 2pm to 6pm at County Hall, Haverfordwest, and offers an informal opportunity for prospective candidates to gain an insight into the role of an elected member and the democratic process.

Visitors will be able to take a guided tour of the Council's meeting facilities, speak directly with existing councillors about their experiences in office and ask questions about the responsibilities, opportunities and challenges that come with representing local communities.

Staff from the Elections and Democratic Services teams will also be on hand throughout the afternoon to provide practical advice on the nomination process, eligibility requirements and the support available to candidates.

Cabinet Member for Communities Cllr Sam Skyrme-Blackhall is the Democracy and Learning and Development.

“Being a Councillor is an interesting and varied role, one where you can make a real difference in your community. If you’ve ever thought about standing for election this is a great chance to find out more and I’d encourage anyone to come along, regardless of background, experience or political affiliation.

“The role is demanding and elected members deal with all sorts of difficulties on a daily basis, but it is rewarding. Those attending will have the opportunity to find out more about how local government works and the vital role councillors play in shaping services, influencing decisions and championing the interests of residents,” said Cllr Skyrme-Blackhall.

Unable to make this session? Further events will be scheduled for early 2027. If you want to let us know you plan to attend on November 10th or have further queries please email events@pembrokeshire.gov.uk
