Residents are being reminded of the range of simple, secure ways to pay their council tax - while also being encouraged to sign up for My Account and switch to electronic billing for faster, more convenient access to their information.
Council tax can be paid in a variety of flexible ways to suit individual preferences:
- Pay by Direct Debit (recommended)
- Pay online
- Pay by phone (24 hours)
- Standing order or online banking
- Pay in person
- Pay by post
- Go paperless
Direct Debit remains the most popular option due to its convenience, reliability, and peace of mind.
Residents are also encouraged to register for My Account, the council’s secure online portal. By signing up, customers can:
- View their council tax balance and payment history anytime
- Set up or amend payment arrangements
- Report changes to their circumstances quickly and easily
- Access other council services in one place
My Account puts information at your fingertips, reducing the need to call or visit in person.
The Council has also introduced an upgrade to its payment system to make it even more secure and ready for the future.
The PAY360 system is a secure cloud-based platform that meets strict industry standards. This will help ensure all payments remain safe and fully compliant with PCI DSS requirements.
As part of this change, customers paying over the phone will enter their card details using their keypad, rather than verbally over the telephone. This helps protect personal information and reduces the risk of fraud.
Switching to electronic billing is a simple step that delivers both convenience and environmental benefits. Customers who choose paperless billing can:
- Receive bills instantly by email
- Access documents securely online at any time
- Reduce paper waste and support sustainability goals.
Cllr Jon Harvey, Cabinet Member for Finance and Efficiency said: “Using Direct Debit, My Account, and electronic billing makes managing your council tax faster and simpler. These options give residents greater control and flexibility, while also helping us deliver services more efficiently.”
Residents can find out more, set up a payment method, or register for My Account by visiting the council website.
