Pembrokeshire’s Children and Young People’s Rights Office (CYPRO) is proud to announce the launch of a new mental and emotional health, and well-being resource for schools.
Launched this week, coinciding with Children’s Mental Health Week (February 9th-15th), Think Outside the Block, is a fun interactive booklet and game designed to encourage discussion, challenge misconceptions and build understanding around emotional health.
Think Outside the Block has been created by members of the Pembrokeshire Youth Assembly, in partnership with CYPRO and the Primary Mental Health Team/School In Reach Team.
The project was developed directly in response to issues raised by young people through the county-wide What Matters to You? consultation, which identified mental health and emotional well-being as one of their top priorities.
Young people involved in the project recognised that mental health, emotional health and neurodiverse terms are often used without a clear understanding of their true meaning.
Think Outside the Block has been designed to address this by helping children and young people explore key topics such as anxiety, self-esteem, neurodiversity and wellbeing in an engaging and accessible way.
It aims to support young people to develop the knowledge and language they need to talk confidently about mental health, emotional health and wellbeing.
Over the coming week, CYPRO will be distributing the resource to secondary schools across Pembrokeshire, ensuring that pupils and staff have access to a practical tool that can be used in classrooms, youth groups and wellbeing sessions.
The Children and Young People’s Rights Office team said: “This project has been led by young people, for young people. Their voices and experiences have shaped every part of this resource.
“We are delighted to be able to share it with schools across the county and support meaningful conversations about mental health, emotional health and wellbeing.”
The Pembrokeshire Youth Assembly continues to play a vital role in representing the views of young people and influencing decisions that affect them. This project is a powerful example of co-production in action and demonstrates the positive impact of listening to young voices.
