More than 3,000 children, young people and adults came together at Scolton Manor on Wednesday 5th August to celebrate Play Day 2026, creating one of Pembrokeshire's biggest and most successful celebrations of play to date.
Delivered as part of the national Play Day campaign, the free family event provided an exciting day of inclusive and cost-friendly activities, ensuring all families from across the county could enjoy a fun day out.
With free entry, free parking and a huge variety of activities on offer, the event demonstrated Pembrokeshire County Council's ongoing commitment to supporting children's right to play.
Families enjoyed a packed programme of activities including inflatables, sports, arts and crafts, face painting, nature-based play, healthy snacks, community stalls and interactive experiences delivered by a wide range of local organisations and partners.
This year's event also celebrated the National Year of Reading, with story-themed activities, and a Story Tree where families could take home a free book.
The atmosphere throughout the day was overwhelmingly positive, with families praising the wide variety of activities and the welcoming environment. Feedback received from attendees highlighted how valuable free community events are, particularly during the summer holidays.
Cllr Sam Skyrme-Blackhall Cabinet Member for Communities, Early Years and Play said: “Play Day is about much more than providing a fun day out. It celebrates every child's right to play and recognises the vital role that play has in supporting children's physical health, emotional wellbeing, creativity, confidence and social development. Through freely chosen play, children develop important life skills, build friendships, explore their surroundings and create lasting memories.”
The success of the event would not have been possible without the support of the many partner organisations, volunteers, activity providers and community groups who worked together to deliver such a diverse programme of activities. Their enthusiasm, commitment and collaboration helped create a welcoming environment where children and families could play, explore and connect with their local community.
Play Day 2026 once again demonstrated the strength of partnership working across Pembrokeshire and highlighted the importance of investing in opportunities that promote play, wellbeing and community connection. Following another hugely successful event, plans are already underway to build on this year's achievements and continue celebrating the importance of play for children, young people and families across the county.
